【Cash Awards】 Thesis and Essay Contest 2011

EUIJ Waseda  Essay Contest 2011

 EUIJ Waseda is organizing an "EU Thesis Contest" and "Essay Contest" for undergraduates at Waseda University. Prizes are available to students who are able to write a high quality thesis or essay on an important issue related to the EU.  Those who enter the contest are required to take note of the following points:

 

1.       Applicant eligibility

Individual or group, must be undergraduate student(s) of Waseda University at the time of the deadline for applications.

2.       Theme

The thesis or essay can be written on any theme related to the EU.

3.       Term and method of submission

Term  : Thursday, 1st December 2011 ~ Monday, 16th January , 2012

Method: Applicants should submit entries by both post (must arrive at the below address by 16th January) and e-mail to the following addresses.

*Please write "EUIJ thesis" or "EUIJ essay" in red on the outside of the envelope.

4.       Guidelines and precautions

Thesis

The thesis can be written in either English (ca. 4,800 words) or Japanese (ca. 15,000 characters) including footnotes and bibliography.

  In each language, the applicants must provide an English title and an English abstract in ca. 250 words.

  In terms of format, theses should be single spaced. Applicants writing in English should use Times New Roman 12. Applicants writing in Japanese should use MS Mincho 10.5.

  All theses must be accompanied by a comprehensive bibliography and footnotes. A recognized academic referencing system should be used.

  The thesis must be written specifically for this competition, and must not be submitted to any other essay competitions.

  Winning theses will be published on the EUIJ Waseda website. In this case, prize winners may be asked to further copyedit their essays to make them suitable for publication on the website.

 

Essay

Essay will be written based on your interest and the EU formed beyond the language, culture, race, politics, nation, law, market, religion and currency.

The essay can be written in either English (ca. 2,400 words) or Japanese (ca. 7,500 characters) including

the footnotes and bibliography.

  In each language, the applicants must provide an English title and an English abstract in ca. 250 words.

  In terms of format, the essay should be single spaced. Applicants writing in English should use Times New Roman 12. Applicants writing in Japanese should use MS Mincho 10.5.

5.       The EUIJ  Waseda expects to offer several substantial prizes. Not all prizes may be awarded.

Thesis

  The first prize (1) : 200,000 yen

  Supplementary awards (few) : 100,000 yen

  Honourable mentions (few) : 10,000 yen.

Essay

  First prize (1) : 50,000 yen

  Supplementary awards (few) : 20,000 yen

  Honourable mentions (few) : 5,000 yen.

* Applicants should note that it is possible that there are no theses and essays submitted that meet the standard required to receive a prize in some or all of the categories.
