This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the European Union and focuses on institutional perspectives and European governance, examining some problems involving institutional reform, based on the reality of European integration, and trends in contemporary political theory. The purpose of this class is to examine the importance of the following features: first, what might be the impact of the Lisbon Treaty's institutional reform for European governance? Second, what reforms are actually specified in the treaty and what difference will they make? Third, what should be done to enhance democratic legitimacy in the EU? Finally, we will explore further possible reforms of the European governance system.
