The present age can be described as an age of globalization and personalization. In addition, it can also be considered that globalization, regional integration, and decentralization are linked together and form a sequence. In this course, we will focus on the integration of the EU and discuss problems such as global politics, regional integration, the fate of nation-states, autonomous bodies, NGOs (civic organizations) and multinational corporations, in this era of globalization.
In Politics and Society in the European Union I, we will first go over the system and common policies of the European Union, and discuss the current state of European integration. Secondly, we will discuss the theme of "the new century of European democracy" from the perspective of comparative politics. Through lectures, students will obtain a perspective for looking at politics and society in present-day Japan, and think about policies and leaders related to problem solving.
