Parliament members

Our regular meetings with MPs (Diet members) and their assistants is held on a monthly basis in/near Nagatacho. As of September 2009, ninety-three MPs graduated from Waseda University. This includes former Prime Ministers Yasuo Fukuda, Yoshiro Mori, and Toshiki Kaifu, and Lower House Speaker Yohei Kohno. They are happy to lecture to Waseda students and faculty (for example, Mr Kohno has already given a series of special lectures at Waseda from October 2008). Generally, the strength of Waseda’s relationship with its alumni secures unrivalled access to significant actors in the political world. Specifically, the monthly meetings provide important opportunities for EUIJ Waseda members and EU representatives to explain the benefits of a less-regulated international trade environment, and indeed a valuable opportunity to raise any other issues they might wish to discuss.
